Wood flooring has seen a resurgence in its popularity for the last few years, but the latest spin on this old favorite is the flooring trend toward LIGHT or NATURAL wood flooring.
Light colors or natural surfaces look gorgeous in our minimalist environments. They add warmth to a modern interior and they a compliment the look of traditional or county-styled homes.
One of my absolute FAV’s for wood flooring is the new CURVED WOOD flooring. It has been around in Europe and through Alibaba.com for a few years, and it is reported coming to North America (via California) soon! It is gorgeous hardwood flooring with naturally curved lengths that follow a tree’s natural growth. Two of the most well known European manufactures are Bolefloor and Waldilla.
Aren’t older houses worufnedl? They have so much character! We bought and live in a house that was built in 1817…we were lucky, the people we bought it from loved this house, and it shows. They were here 28 years before they sold it, and kept it really nice. We did a small remodel in the first floor (to get rid of a laundry closet and add a powder room instead so Little Princess and Nana and Papa didn’t have to navigate the stairs for ‘urgency’…*grin!*) We made sure we used 100 year old barn wood, and some awesome 100 year old timbers to keep the ‘look’ authentic. And I love the wood floors – I spent an entire day with a hammer and crow bar to hack up the linoleum (and 3/8-inch press board) that was in the kitchen to bring it back to the original floors…what a huge difference!Enjoy your old house – would love to see you post pictures at some point!
love your blog so European and for the better part lets be honest the Europeans are a far throw ahead of the US in design.
