People are always asking us “How do you do that?”

They often say “I would never have thought of that!”

Designers are creative and sometimes crazy people, but a lot of times there is a method to our madness.  In our latest “How DO You Do That?” we are sharing designer secrets, interior design knowledge and do-it-yourself tricks to make things easier when you are trying to put your own room together.

We made this small, typical apartment space larger with just a few tricks of the trade!  In this small space you can see how we used color to warm up the room, contrast and friction to make things more intersting and open,  different types of artwork to solve different space problems, varying wood tones, Lucite chairs to fix a tiny dining room and modern track lighting for flexibilty and to save space.

WHAT DO YOU DO ALL DAY?

I recently met with an intelligent reporter who focuses on architecture and engineering in the media.  We had a good conversation that eventually came around to the subject of interior designers.

Turns out that this well-meaning woman had almost no idea what interior designers actually do.  She knew about furniture and fabrics, which is great, but little else.

As interior designers, we live and breathe our work, so it is always a surprise to us when people assume we spend every day picking paint colors and sofa fabrics.

Most of our projects go on for more than a year. The important ‘furnishings and fabrics’ part takes place in the last 3-6 months of job. So what could we possibly be doing the rest of the time?  Here is a glimpse into a ‘day in the life’!

We love this living room at a Naples, Florida condo we recently completed.

The entire condo design won lots of awards, but most importantly, it won Beasley & Henley Interior Design a very happy client!  Here are some of our  ‘trade secrets’ for interior design, interior detailing and interior architecture!Living Room in Naples Condo, Beasley & Henley Interior Design/Stephen Allen Photography

Here is another great picture from the  How-DO-They-Do-That?! file.

This home in Naples was about 10,000 square feet and had a nice flow to it from the architect Mark Nasrallah.  On the interior detailing and interior design side, we added everything.  Here is a picture of completed living room with all the details and furnishings.  Such a great house!

I got lots of emails on my last How-Do-They-Do-That? post so I thought a would do another.

This one is a room I love in Naples Florida. It was a ‘designer -ready’ unit which means we got it with concrete floors, and plain, unembellished drywall ceilings and walls. Except for the kitchen and bathroom plumbing we added everything, and I mean everything!

This shot gives just a one-room example of what interior designers can do to a room. It can give a few ‘do it yourself’ ideas and also shows some of the latest design trends and unique ideas! Let me know what you think!
